Every month there is one movie where no matter how many summaries we read nor trailers we watch, we can’t figure out what on earth is actually going on. This is that movie for March. Based on the Final Fantasy video game franchise, Kingsglaive takes place in the magical kingdom of Lucis. There’s a crystal, and some bad guys that want to steal it. There’s a king (voiced by Sean Bean), a princess (voiced by Lena Headey), and an Audi (presumably voiced by an Audi). There’s a treaty that goes awry, and a group of knights who happen to be called the Kingsglaive tasked with putting everything right.

The most convenient way to check times and buy tickets is one of any number of apps, including WeChat, Alipay, and the movie-specific Mtime. To that end, often films from overseas are release in China in two formats: original language with Chinese subtitles and Mandarin-dubbed soundtrack. Most theaters are kind enough to distinguish between these two formats with a note in the listing. To find the English language showings, look for 英文 or 外语 in the show time listing.
Generally, the English language version of any foreign film is shown much more frequently during the first two weeks after it first opens in China. It is often possible to still find English showings after that, but it does tend to become a more complicated hunt at that point.
